We are happy to present you a collection of Dangus newsletters published between 1996 and 2002! Dangus is the oldest-running independent music label in Lithuania founded in 1993. These 23 newsletters, with the combined total of 99 pages, provide a detailed and chronological dive into the evolution of the label, as well as the Baltic underground metal, ambient, electronic and neofolk scenes.
Back in 1996, the newsletters served as promotional outlets to deliver news and catalog updates to underground fans. Later they grew in size, offering scene updates, insights, live show and festival reports, and occasional interviews - all presented in a sharp, authentic, enthusiastic and often humorous style. The first 21 issues were published between 1996 and 1998, followed by issue 22 in 1999 and the final issue in 2002.
The label had roots in extreme metal, but over the years expanded its range to support the best original Baltic music across various styles like neofolk, industrial, ambient, electronics, gothic, at the same time leaving room for metal. During its first decade, Dangus released over 60 underground music releases and fanzines from black, doom and death metal (Meressin, Poccolus, Shadowdances, Ruination, Manatark, Dissimulation, Ha Lela, and more) to neofolk and industrial (Romowe Rikoito, Girnų Giesmės, others) and the famous Dark Fire Dancing compilations of Baltic bands. The label evolved into a solid organization that supports original Baltic music of various styles, organizes Mėnuo Juodaragis (MJR) festival and promotes modern outlook on the ethnic heritage.
All newsletters are in Lithuanian, but they have been processed with OCR, allowing you to use online tools to translate the text into your language. Our "genre scanner" engine generated the Genre Map for Dangus Newsletters below. Hint: The bigger the genre box, the more frequently it was mentioned.
