Snakepit #9

France

2000

Other Issues:

Editors: Laurent Ramadier, Heinz Konzett, Matt Coe

If there are fanzines that deserve legendary status, Snakepit is certainly one of them. Started in 1997 by Frank Stover (now of voicesfromthedarkside.com), it focused on old and new traditional heavy, speed, thrash, and power metal. Frank couldn't continue after issue #4, and issue #5 marks the beginning of Laurent Ramadier's tenure as editor, with Heinz Konzett and Matt Coe (now deadrhetoric.com) serving as main contributors. The fanzine is famous for its super lengthy in-depth interviews that stand the test of time and careful selection of bands, with a tendency to focus on what is less known.

Issue 5 contains interviews with 80s legends such as Acid, Attacker, Deaf Dealer, Hades, Jag Panzer, Liege Lord, Warhead, and Witch Cross, as well as bands that emerged during the 90s like Eldritch, Elegy, and Evergrey. Additionally, there is a Metal Blade Records special featuring Brian Slagel, along with reviews of demos, albums, EPs, and re-releases.

You can order archive books of Snakepit issues #1 to #13, as well as its latest issues, from Sonic Age Heavy Metal Store.
